Digital Refractometer
The digital refractometer consist of an light source under the prism. The light source is focused on the underside of the prism.The measuring liquid is kept on the prism and light source is passed to the prism, The measuring liquid will absorb the light and some of the light will be losed, the remaing light is directed towards series of photodiodes(which converts light energy into electrical energy), light will create the shadow line on the photodiodes.The position of the shadow line in the photodiodes gives the refractive index of the liquid.The software in the refractometer will detect the shadow line in the photodiodes and gives the brix value.The brix value is displayed in the LCD or LED screen.
The more elements on photodiodes means, easy analysis of brix value for emulsions.
The result displayed on the refractometer display are based on the following units. Brix,Freezing point, concentration, Boiling point,etc.
The temperature of the liquid while measuring is very important,The desired temperature of the pulp is manually set on the refractometer,After the pulp reaches the desired temperature, brix will be calculated. For example,Temperature of Mango pulp for brix analysis is 20 degree Celsius. For brix analysis, Refractometer uses Automatic compensation temperature.
The brix meter is calibrated by sucrose solution of desired brix,after every 48-72 hrs calibration is necessary.Before calibration brix value is neutralized by water.
